I'd like to hear more about everyone's personal experiences with floating - past, present, and future.
There are dozens of us here - please tell us why are you here (certainly not to let everyone *else* do all the talking!), and what you like or don't like about floating. Has floating changed your life or is it just a relaxing escape? Does anyone use it professionally?
Please share!

Re: Post your personal experiences
Sun, May 15, 2005 - 7:49 PMI floated for the 2nd time today and I can't even begin to describe the heavenly sensation ... :)
addictive no doubt !!!
The 1st time was just as amazing but it took me about 10 minutes to get comfortable with the environment (salt in eyes, water in ears) ...
I think for most people, the 2nd time must be the ultimate ... reaching that comfort level ... it must get even more exceptional with every experience I'm sure :)))
This place : ovarium.com/eng/html/index.asp
is only a 15 min walk from my home and I just found out that my work insurance covers it under Naturopathie ... KEWL !!!
I'll be there monthly from now on :))) -

Wed, May 18, 2005 - 12:17 PMReese - is this a theraputic treatment for a medical condition or is your insurance paying because it is 'stress prevention'? -

Re: Post your personal experiences
Wed, May 18, 2005 - 3:56 PMI have no medical condition and it's not covered for stress prevention either ... but naturopathie (in french) is covered ... which covers the floating tanks !!!
I didn't even know that when I went the 1st time, but I asked (which never hurts) ... so they kindly provided a receipt, I took my chances, sent it in, and GOT my $ back ~ whoohoo !
miraculously ~ massages are covered too ~!~ so I'm definitely taking FULL advantage :))) yeahy !!! -

Re: Post your personal experiences
Mon, June 27, 2005 - 3:06 PMI float on a regular basis for years , do yoga eat healthy and have a very good spiritual relationship with the universe... I have seen things within while floating usually on the kaliedoscopic scale , it is truly amazing , I have also had precog visions while in the takn usually on the borderline of sleep , like if i start to drift i will
get percognative , which is odd because if you saw minority report , the precogs were floaters... -

Re: Post your personal experiences
Wed, June 29, 2005 - 9:34 AMEver try remote viewing in the tank? I just bought a used tank to replace the one I built and will be trying a lot of RV targets while in the tank. I also plan on experimenting with some NLP processes while floating to see what happens. -

Re: Post your personal experiences
Tue, July 5, 2005 - 6:09 AMStuart, this is very interesting. I've floated a lot but not gotten into remote viewing, well not intentionally anyway! Please keep us posted as to how it's going for you (perhaps start a new thread).
By the way, what was your old tank like and what kind is your new one? -

Re: Post your personal experiences
Wed, July 6, 2005 - 6:20 AMIve posted pictures of the two tanks on my profile. The first one I built from some plans I found on the internet. Basically plywood with a pond liner, waterbed heaters, and lined with corragated plastic inside. It worked ok but leaked a bit from condensation so I decided to decommission it. As I looked around for a new one I happened across a posting of a used shamadi tank in New Mexico so I am going to drive out in a few weeks and pick it up.
I have a series of experiments lined up in my head and was thinking of starting a site of my own to chronicle the activity but I will surely cross post here to let you guys know.
I love the tank experience because its very effective in bluring the line between levels of awakeness.

Re: Post your personal experiences
Sun, July 31, 2005 - 10:43 PMHi Dreamer - I'm new to this tribe. I have heard about Floatation while I was in Ireland last month, but did not get a chance to do it while I was there.
I did do research to find a place here in Nor Cal who had floatation tanks and have found 2! I experienced my first float yesterday and I loved it!
My float time was 90 minutes, but it took me 1/2 hour to figure out the makings of the tank and my whereabouts in the dark, but after that, I zoned out completely. I have a very stressful worklife, so this was just a wonderful relaxing experience.
I had a reflexology appointment after and the reflexologiest told me that I was going to have a restful sleep that evening.
Sure enough, I went to bed after 10pm and was gone - I slept almost 10 hours!
I have plans on doing this again. I would love to do it on a weekly basis, but it can be expensive, so for now, my plans are to make it routine 2x a month.

Re: Post your personal experiences
Tue, September 6, 2005 - 2:08 PMI floated for the first time for my birthday a few months ago. It was absolutely great as I have been meditating for about 15 years. The exercises I do were the only thing that held me from completely disappearing...The sense of time and space was neglegent. I wish I could do it more...guess I would need to make my own space for it someday. The place I went was at Chumayo in Blue Lake,CA near Arcata - Humboldt.

Re: Post your personal experiences
Sat, September 10, 2005 - 4:43 PMThat's great, Pedro, congratulations!
I love that the experience can be simply physical (and wonderful) for some people and to others it's that and so much more! Definitely, a background in spirituality or meditation/prayer will enhance the journey.

Re: Post your personal experiences
Fri, December 9, 2005 - 3:21 PMI floated for the first time in Seattle about 4 years ago, a series of events, including the recieving of several of John C. Lilly's books as a gift, got me interested. After my first hour I was decided on owning one, I ended up building one in the basement of the lab building at The Evergreen State College ala Altered States. I have since floated for about 100 hours total, I've put about 130 people in my tank free of charge beyond the ocasional donation. Since I've had so many varried experiences in there I'll just say that John is right on when he says
"In the province of the mind, what one believes to be true is true or becomes true, within certain limits to be found experientially and experimentally. These limits are further beliefs to be transcended. In the province of the mind, there are no limits."
Terrence McKenna has a question that applies very well to the floating experience. "Why is it that the further you go in the bigger it gets?" -

Re: Post your personal experiences
Fri, February 23, 2007 - 1:28 PMfirst float last night! definitely meditations helped to deepen the experience for me, and likewise, the experience deepened the meditations. i was struck by the ease of lucid dreaming capacity, even before my body had fully relaxed (it took a little while for my neck and shoulders to let go). the first time was definitely a process of getting my bearings, physically and mentally, so some time was more 'active' mentally and the rest was more about letting go, allowing, etc but images came quite readily on their own and it was very easy to work with them... once my neck stopped efforting, i was asleep and it took a couple attempts to wake me.. great space to watch your mind... marty, it's so cool you've floated so many people for free. great gift... -

Re: Post your personal experiences
Fri, February 23, 2007 - 7:13 PMIf I have a place to put one and a budget to build one I'll maintain it just for myself and my friends. Really if I have one, I have no choice but to offer it to all intrepid explorers who pass my way. That said, my tanks have always been less than spa quality in demeanor clean yes, but a bit industrual. I never expect those who brave a strangers living space to get in a homeade isolation chamber to pay for it in anything but a reflection of their experience/s and maybe some Epsom salt or dinner and a conversation.
