john c. lily

i'll soon be traveling to haiku maui for an internship at the kahua institute, a tantric retreat owned by the woman whom john lily spent the last 10 years of his life organizing cetacean interactions with. i've not spoken to her yet on whether or not there are any float tanks there, but my feeling is, of course there are, as john was the man who called them into existance. does anyone have any further info on kahua, dolphins, or tanks? any connections on maui? any comments on john lily? i have to say, he's the reason i'm going, sort of following a ghost, sort of lead by a ghost.
much love,
sara

    Hi Sara,
I've been fortunate enough to spend a considerable amount of time on Maui over the last 15 years or so. I plan at some point to go to Kahua myself.
Haiku is Upcountry, so you'll be on the side of the volcano rather than near the ocean, but the ocean views are spectacular.
The dolphins there love to follow boats and play, but there's no "swim with the dolphins" program on Maui, as far as I know. Maybe the Institute can arrange one.
I am part of a work group that includes the man who developed the tank with John. I'm a regular floater as well as a trained guide for first-time floaters, so if you have any specific questions, I'll be happy to try to answer them for you.
